2013 AGILITY SPRINGER OF THE YEAR
MACH10 CEDARWOODS CHAOTIC CRESCENDO MXS4 MJB5 MXF TQX T2B
Chaos
Owned by Jan Baker & Jackie Alschuler

Thank you for honoring Chaos with this award. It’s hard for me to believe that Chaos has received the Agility Springer of the Year award for four years in a row. When I think of where we started and how much I had to learn, it seems unreal. To coin a phrase, we’ve come a long way, baby. Chaos has offered me plenty of challenges over the years in agility. Back in the day, she could not resist a tunnel that was in her path or a chance to do the weaves again. In the early years, she was happy to perform at medium speed and I was content with that. Our performance as a team really improved once we started training with Patty Salzwedel. Patty has helped me grow immensely as a handler and challenged me to get the most out of Chaos.

Our growth as a team is evident in Chaos’ accomplishments. She earned an unbelievable three Master Agility Championships in 2013 – MACH8, MACH9 and MACH10. We also competed for the fourth year in a row at the AKC Agility Invitational in Orlando as one of the top five agility Springers.

It’s been incredible journey with Chaos. We have both grown so much in our skills and teamwork. I am so fortunate to walk to the start line with this amazing teammate. But the best part is sharing our home with her.

Many thanks to our breeder, Pat Welch of Cedarwood’s ESS, for this very special girl.

2013 EXCELLENT AGILITY SPRINGER
MACH3 AUBREY’S RUN FOR THE ROSES CDX RA MXC MJC MXF
Rose
Owned by Karen Schelling

Thanks, again, to the ESSFTA for recognizing my Rose. It has been a very exciting and interesting year for us. Rose was selected by random draw to participate in Westminster Kennel Club’s very first, historic agility trial. It was an honor for us, along with the other agility teams, to be able to showcase our sport for a world wide audience. Rose earned her MACH 4 at Westminster on a double Q and, incredibly, became eligible to run in the finals. Rose enjoyed the support of the enthusiastic audience and in particular, the attention of FOX TV’s Georgie Thompson, who very publically cheered on the “English” dog. Rose also competed in AKC Agility Nationals and earned a spot in the finals for the second year in a row. She finished in 8th place, a very respectable accomplishment in a competitive field, with a beautiful, flawless and powerful run. It was a joy to be able to take our place among the best dogs in the nation and to demonstrate what it is possible to achieve with an English Springer Spaniel. I would like to extend my deep appreciation to the English Springer Spaniel handlers from all parts of the country who contacted me to extend their support following Nationals, to my breeder, Allison Miele and to my trainers, Mary Ellen Barry and Alaina Axford-Moore of Keystone Agility Club, without whose support Rose would not be Rose.

2013 OPEN AGILITY SPRINGER
CHIRIDION DRIVING MS MACY OA OAJ
Macy
Owned by Pam Jacoby & Mike Jacoby

Macy, Mike and I thank the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association (ESSFTA) for naming Macy “Open Agility Springer of the Year for Chiridion Driving Ms Macy, Star Puppy, CGC, OA, and OAJ.”

Mike and I first met Macy when she was four weeks old while visiting her Mom, “Whisper” (CH Pembroke Hidden Agenda), and her littermates. She was climbing out of the x-pen, retrieving my keys from the floor and was totally focused on me the entire visit. ALL my ESS breeder friends (bench and field enthusiasts, Julie Hogan and Donna Thompson) told me that Macy was my next agility dog. Macy is bred by Sandy Stinson, Alice Berd and Frances Nelson, out of “Felon” (Calvdale Felon). Thank you, Ladies. Mike and I and ESS big sister, Jessie, love every inch of her!

As a puppy, Macy earned the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy diploma, a CGC title, plus NA and NAJ titles. Her continued accomplishments in Agility, Nose Work and other venues are only exceeded by her sense of humor, silliness and beauty. As we all know, there is something special about those Springer ears floating atop their heads like quotation marks that says “Wheeee!” Macy is a hoot to run in Agility and a blast to live with. She makes us laugh every day.

Macy gives Mike and me her unconditional love and trust every day. To paraphrase Alan Greenspan of the Federal Reserve, Macy has an “irrational exuberance” as she bounces through life with a smile, an impish wag of her tail, and a twinkle in her eyes.

2013 NOVICE AGILITY SPRINGER
CLASSIC SAND-N-SEASHELLS CHELSEA BEACH NA OAJ
Chelsea
Owned by R E Smedley & Candace Heller

This is what Chelsea has been up to over the past year. Competing in agility trials over one year ago, after training together with instructors once a week as well as many hours at home. Chelsea quickly achieved the 3 qualifying scores needed to complete the Novice level. Chelsea has began to compete at larger venues where the energy and stress was elevated for both dog and handler. The team had many dry spells, but we never gave up. Just recently, Chelsea completed the Open title and plans to compete in the Excellent level. Pride is felt when Chelsea clears the final obstacle with a perfect run. This puppy was a natural from the start, always ahead of her littermates in challenges and obstacles. Chelsea practices agility in all that she does: climbs trees, jumps off the diving board at the local pool, plays soccer, and catches Frisbees!

2013 PREFERRED AGILITY SPRINGER OF THE YEAR
CH MACH4 PACH2 WIL-ORION’S HEARTS ON FIRE UD VER RE MXG2 MJG2 MXP3 MXPB MJP4 MJPB PAX OF T2B CA
Ellie
Owned by Michelle Gossett, T Gossett & Janice L. Johnson

With her silver ears flying, Ellie has done a great job earning ESSFTA Preferred Agility Springer for 2013. After achieving MACH 4 and being 8 1/2 years old I moved Ellie to preferred. What a great decision, because every run is about fun and enjoying our time together. Always the most willing partner, Ellie has given me the love and passion for agility I now hold. While having earned titles in breed, obed, rally, field, and agility, my partnership with Ellie has been the most important piece. Originally meant to be my husband’s dog, it was quickly apparent that Ellie and I are attached at the heart. Thank you to Janice Johnson and Wil-Orion Springers for this most awesome dog. And thank you to ESSFTA for this award to top off Ellie’s career.
