OBEDIENCE SPRINGER OF THE YEAR
UTILITY OBEDIENCE SPRINGER OF THE YEAR
OTCH SPARKY’S NOODLE UDX |

Owner: Diane Sparks |
The Utility Springer of 2005 is
awarded to the springer with the highest average of the top three scores
from the Utility classes.
The Obedience Springer of 2005 is awarded to the springer with the
highest average of the top three combined open and utility scores. It is
a tough award to compete for. In 2005, only 10 english springer spaniels
competed at this level in the nation.
In 2005, OTCH Sparky’s Noodle UDX, owned by Diane Sparks, wins these two
awards with an average utility score of 198.17, and a combined
open/utility average of 395.33, which is less than 5 points off of a
perfect 400 points.
Diane writes:
Noodle, or Schnoodie as we call him, came to me from an SPCA in Maryland
when he was 18 months old. He was in the obedience ring within 5 months,
going High in Trial in his first novice appearance. He earned his CD in
three ring appearances, earning 2 High in Trials in the process. His CDX
came in three shows as well, and his UD in four (I goofed!). He earned
his OTCh in 17 trial appearances and was in the top 60 obedience dogs
for 2004 as ranked by the AKC. In 2005, Noodle was ranked number 41 in
the country by the AKC and earned his second invitation to the National
Obedience Invitationals. He has earned a multitude of High in
Trial and High Combined awards. However, his greatest gift to me has
been his companionship. Noodle is a blast to travel with and an exciting
competitor with which to be partnered. We don't compete as much these
days, choosing to spend our time in the field or stream instead doing
what God designed him to do. He is a once in a lifetime kind of friend,
and I appreciate having the opportunity to share him with all of you. |

OPEN OBEDIENCE SPRINGER OF THE YEAR
WEDGWOOD’S GEMSTONE CDX RN |

Owners: Martha F. Edwards & Nancy R. Johnson |
The Open Obedience Springer of
2005 is awarded to the top english springer spaniel
competing in the Open classes before earning their Utility
title.
Wedgwood’s Gemstone CDX RN,
owned by Martha F. Edwards & Nancy R. Johnson, bred by Nancy
R. Johnson, wins this award with an average top three Open
score of 197.5 points.
Martha writes:
Genna has been a delight from
the first day I met her. She was 6 mos old, and every time
I held a treat over her head, she sat. At that point, I
knew that we would be a team and she would be eager to work
for food. Genna is very attentive and focused. She learns
everything quickly and loves being paid with food. Talk
about food driven! Her 2 favorite things to do are singing
and eating. She is quite the singer, and at one show, sang
outside the breed ring while the national anthem was being
played.

RALLY SPRINGER OF THE YEAR
MIRATRI TAR-TANGO UDX3 RAE MX AXP AXJ AJP |

Owner: Mirabelle Wrist |
The Rally Springer of the
Year is a new award in 2005. It is awarded to the english springer
spaniel with the highest three combined Rally Advanced B and Excellent B
classes.
In 2005, only five springers qualified for this award. Miratri Tar-Tango
UDX3 RAE MX AXP AXJ AJP, owned and bred by Mirabelle Wrist, wins this
award with a high-three combined average of 199 points out of a perfect
200 points. She is also noted for having four perfect scores from two
trials.Mirabelle writes:
On June 11th 1998, I whelped a very special litter of English Springer
Spaniel puppies. The first was a handsome black & white male that I
named “Tux” and I knew he would be going to Laurene Galgano. The fifth
whelped was a pretty little black tri bitch, that I knew immediately was
going to stay with me, and I called her Tango. How could I have foreseen
that these lovely dogs would be two of the best performance Springers in
the country by 2005!
Tonight I am very proud and honored that: Miratri Tar-Tango is the Rally
Springer of 2005. |
Tango had
rather an unfortunate start in her life. When she was three weeks old, I
took two of my older Springers to the ESSFTA Nationals in Atlanta. While
there, I had a bad fall while practicing agility and broke my leg. So
Tango’s obedience training was rather late starting as my rehabilitation
was very slow. Tango is a somewhat submissive dog, so she also had a few
worries when she started her show career, getting used to the strange
judges & stewards. Her debut in the Novice Obedience ring was on Sept
23rd 2000, and she quickly got her CD. Her experience in the Novice ring
was very brief, as she was High in Trial two days in a row at the
Chattahoochee Springer Specialty in Atlanta in January 2001. Her Open
career was almost as brief as she finished her CDX Dec 8th 2001. During
the same period, she was also having fun in the Agility rings. In 2001
she won the ESSFTA Open Jumpers with Weaves Agility Springer award.
Tango has also had a multi titlist award each year since 2001. Tango is
still competing in Obedience. She is a very steady and dependable
worker. She now has UDX 5 and we are slowly gaining her OTCH points. She
has all her 1st places, and 76 points. In the August 2006 Front &
Finish, Tango was listed in the First & Foremost Rating System as the
Highest Scoring English Springer Spaniel in 2005 with 242 points.
Tango & I have been having fun practicing Rally for the past three
years, and were delighted when it became an AKC Titling event in 2005.
Tango & I want to thank ESSFTA for her award. |

I am honored to be recognized for this year’s awards. CeCe may be small
in
stature , but is huge in spirit! She is the first dog that I have bred
and
kept. She possesses drive, intelligence, bidability and work ethic that
make
her an absolute joy to work with.
She received both her JR. hunt title & her CD at last year’s National.
Coming from Minnesota, we train & show only inside for Obedience. At the
National in Ohio, we showed outside, next to the lake. Beautiful yes,
but it
proved to be a bit more that my little girl could handle. All was well
until
the seagulls started flying above us. She definitely thinks that birds
are
more fun than me. We managed to win the class anyway, but not as well as
she can do. Thank goodness we show inside at home.
I look forward to training for the next levels in both obedience and in
the
field. Thank you again for the recognition. |

I mentioned to Karen Bolt that I was looking for a show bitch
with great temperament. She put in a good word for me on a litter out
of CH Esspecial Park Avenue UD and CH Esspecial Winter Storm CD. I was
very lucky to be able to purchase this little puppy. Monica picked her
for me because she thought Winter would do well in performance too. I
can't thank Karen and Monica enough; Winter is everything I ever wanted
and more. |

spaniel with a tracking title having the highest top-three
average score from an obedience class.
In 2005, Muddy Paws Beautiful
Trinket VCD2 TDX RN AX, owned by Mindy Mymudes, wins this

Utility A class.
Chrystal (the winning dog)
writes:
It is apparent the red
headed lady is far too busy at school to think about sitting
down and writing about us.
So I decided to do it.
We didn't do much last
year. I had a clothesline full of puppies to raise, and I
still have one hanging around. Seems strange to see black
and white here that isn't reading material.
Anyhow, I came off of
pregnancy leave, showed a few times in something called
Utility, and that was about it. My scores were all 196. I
guess that makes me a good dog. So, if you could all wrap
your leftovers from the banquet as a doggie bag for me in
Wisconsin, I would appreciate it. They NEVER feed me here!
